The Jews of the Ottoman Empire

I would like to say how much I enjoy reading The Scribe, which comes to our synagogue in Colchester. It is more relevant to me personally, as I am working on a doctorate on the Jews of the Ottoman Empire.

It has occurred to me that I may appeal to your readers for any information that they may have in respect to the areas on which I am working. I hope that you can publish my letter in that hope.

Firstly, I am interested in the press of the region, around 1895 to 1925. I read Judeo-Spanish (Judezmo, Ladino), in Hebrew characters as well as Latin. I am also concerned with the novels (romansos) that were published at the same time in chap-book form. My other area of interest is in the journal editors and authors, particularly Alexandre Benghiat, although others involved in this work are as important.
